1970 CHRIS CRAFT XK 19 V-Drive FOR SALE:
I TOOK 3 YEARS TO RESTORE THIS BOAT. IT WAS BOUGHT NEW BY MY UNCLE IN 1970 AT BALD RIDGE MARINA ON LAKE LANIER GA. HE USED THE BOAT UNTIL 1988 WHEN HE STORED IT IN A WAREHOUSE. I SAW IT ONE DAY IN 2007 AND TALKED HIM INTO GIVING ME THE BOAT TO RESTORE WHICH I DID. I will attempt to give you an idea of how extensive this restoration was. To start with I prepared the hull by stripping it of all running gear, hard ware and electrical part. I then laminated the top deck to the hull at the rub rail with a 4" strip of woven fiberglass all the way around the hull. I then glassed in supports under the dash and rear engine cockpit where there was factory weak areas. I sent the hull out to one of the top fiberglass shops in the southeast. This shop is the southeast factory Cobalt fiberglass repair station. They prepped the hull and re-gel coated the entire boat with the factory color at a price of $20,000.
I had the stock engine replaced by a completely rebuilt 400 Ci small block chevy that all the stock Chris Craft plumbing, exhaust and hardware bolted right on. This gives you about an extra 10 mph. The machine shop that rebuilt the engine was Heintz Brother Automotive in Statesville NC. They are a machine shop that builds engines for the smaller NASCAR race teams. This engine has all new Eagle crank, rods and pistons with the big valve stainless heads. The stock numbers matching engine is rebuilt also and is included with the boat. The v-drive trans was rebuilt by a Paragon shop in the Midwest. I replaced all the gauges with New Out of Stock Stewart Warner just like the originals. The original CC hour meter read 495 hrs when I took it our. I put a new Hobbs meter in when I finished the restoration and it now reads about 50 hrs. I replace all the flooring with teak and holly sole and veneered the dash and side boards with teak and applied 8 coats of West poly and wet sanded and polished to a slick finish. All chrome was refinished by Advanced Chroming in Nashville the top custom chroming company in the SE. New interior just like the original was installed and to finish it off a set of custom Kahlenberg air horns on the bow. I have all receipt for the restoration and I am sure I am missing a lot of what was done with this boat. This restoration was a labor of love and I never intended to sell it. I am selling it because I am retiring to St.Joe Beach Fl. and I would never put this boat in salt water and I don't want to just let it set in the warehouse.
